Basically, this means that a person who is born in a poor family has a great chance to succeed in life and achieve upward social mobility.

J.D. Vance’s text explores issues related to the difficulties of obtaining the American Dream for the white working-class. Vance is an example of a success story about the American dream.1.
Even though he came from a broken family, after all, he managed to change his life in another direction by studying at Yale Law school plus finding a nice job, that helped him to become a part of the middle-class.
He also mentions that it is thanks to; “...handful of loving people”2, that rescued him which made it possible for him to achieve this today.
On the other hand, the text explores several factors that prevent poor people from obtaining the American Dream.
A couple of these factors are the industrial decline and the fact that fewer jobs are available for the poor working-class, whereas middle-class jobs often are only available to those with a college education
