Uddrag
In the introduction to J.D. Vance’s memoir ”Hillbilly Elegy. A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis” (2016), he writes about his experiences with the American Dream, and how his life is sculpted around it.

J.D. Vance describes himself as the ordinary guy - not a senator, governor, or big businessman. He grows up in the Rust Belt as a kid with a grim future ahead of him.

Now he is living the American Dream. Through his life, he encounters a concerning problem with the working-class white Americans in the Appalachian region.

It comes in form of a culture that encourages social decay. This introduction is an account of J.D. Vance’s life and how upward mobility really feels through the eyes of hillbillies.
