In a memoir, Writer of the text, J.D Vance, tells about his childhood as a young boy in the working class of America.
Even though he identifies with the millions of working-class white Americans, he is able to break through his social inheritance to achieve an ordinary job
a happy marriage, a comfortable home and also two dogs. People consider him a genius due to his current status and Ivy League credentials, but beyond the front lies the dark truth of the Hillbillies.
The American dream seems unachievable and if you are lucky, you will probably receive welfare in the future - this, however
is often not the case, and some adults will die of drug overdoses due to depressions or other psychological impacts.

J.D. Vance’s autobiography from 2016 ”Hillbilly Elegy. A memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis” uses his own childhood as a starting point to his book.
He grew up in a poor environment in Rust Belt, a steel town located in Ohio. Vance had a complex relationship with his parents, one of them who struggled with addictions
and was raised by his grandparents who never graduated from College. Without an education, it seems impossible to attend the hunt for the American Dream: To start from nothing and through hard work someday improve your life.
In the beginning of his book, the author points out that he finds the existence of that very same book absurd.
He expresses that in an age of just 31 he should not be writing a book unless he has achieved something extraordinary.
