The short story “Dusk over Atlantic wharf” was written by Susmita Bhattacharya in 2006. Susmita Bhattacharya is an author from Mumbai, and has written many poems and short stories, like “Dusk over Atlantic wharf” and many others.

Susmita Bhattacharya has tried to implement various messages in this story. The first one being, that no matter how you look, or where you come from, people should accept you for who you are. You may look different or come from a different culture, but we are all humans.

As well as that, she also tries to spread the message regarding the arranged marriage system, which is still an ongoing issue in certain parts of the world.

The main character of the story has been a victim of an arranged marriage. She was married away by her father, which we know judging by this quote “good future for you, beti (daughter)” (p.1 l.33).
