People flee from all kinds of things every day, some run away from their family, others from responsibility, some even flee from themselves.
Those would be called small things, from the people who are running away for their life. Even still in today’s world, people are forced to flee from their homes, for their safety.

Aline is still a young girl, which might mean that she does not understand that they are fleeing from their home.
“I feel like I’m sitting on the soft warm sand of the beach near our house except for this time we’re in Miami” (Line 80-82, page 14). While all of these things are happening to the people around Aline, her mind goes to a happier memory, in her hometown.
As the readers keep reading, they get the sense that Aline slowly begins to understand the situation that she and her family are in.
But instead of worrying about what might happen, her only concern is her family’s wellbeing.
