ADHD Is a shortening for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The typical symptoms are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
• ADHD is the most common mental diagnosis among children and adolescents.
• In Denmark, there has been a large increase in the number of children registered in the child and adolescent psychiatric wards with the diagnosis ADHD, from approximately 1,000 children and young people in 2001 to approximately 8,000 in 2011.
The number is a minimum number. The children and young people who are diagnosed outside the hospital system are not included.
• It is estimated that one-three% of adults and two-three% of school children have ADHD. More boys than girls are diagnosed.
