Uddrag
In October 16, 2015, the large weekly German news magazine Der Spiegel reported that it had allegedly discovered that, the reason why Germany was awarded the right to host the 2006 World Cup in football, was bribe.
The money should have come from then Adidas CEO, Robert Louis Dreyfus’ private funds, in the context of Adidas being the supplier of equipment for the German national team and long-time FIFA partner (FIFA, 2016).
The money should allegedly have been put in a slush fund set up by the German bidding committee part of DFB and used to buy the votes of four of the Asian representatives on the FIFA executive committee.
Der Spiegel also says that the head of German bidding committee, German football icon Franz Beckenbauer, and now former DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach, should have had been aware of the fund latest 2005, when Robert Louis Dreyfus asked for the loan to be paid back.
According to allegations, this was done by the Organizing committee, in that moment with Franz Beckenbauer as president and Wolfgang Niersbach as vice-president, via FIFA.
DFB has been denying allegations that they had paid for the four votes and has also denied that Franz Beckenbauer and Wolfgang Niersbach were aware of the existence of such a fund.
FIFA stated that these are very serious allegation that would be reviewed as part of the currently already ongoing independent investigation being conducted by FIFA.
Moreover, the head management of FIFA was already under heavy allegations regarding bribes and corruption relating to Russia and Qatar being chosen as hosts for the World up hosts in 2018 and 2022 (BBC, May 2015).
Especially the choice of Qatar has been receiving heavy criticism, because of the unethical ways that the workers used to building the stadium are being treated. 3. Methodology
