1. Who are the two people speaking in the text?
“Wind of change” is a speech made to the South Africa Parliament by Harold Macmillan. Macmillan is a British politician and prime minister and was one of the outstanding conservative leaders.
The South African prime minister, Hendrik Verwoerd delivered a response to Harold Macmillan’s speech.
Hendrik Verwoerd was a South African politician and sociologist. Verwoerd has been called the architect behind arpartheid. He was Prime Minister of South Africa from 1958 to 1966.
2. What are the main points of the two different parties?
The speech “wind of change” was made after he had spent a month in Africa, after visiting a number of British colonies.
He mentions that it is the western people’s responsiblity, what has happened in South Africa, both concerning the prosperity but also the apartheid.
Therefore, theEuropeans should be held accountable, and they should give coloured people the same rights as the Europeans have.
