Indledning
On the 23rd of September 2019, Greta Thunberg delivered a largely viewed speech at the U.N. Climate Action Summit in New York, where the leaders of the 193 countries that are a part of the U.N, were gathered.

The purpose of the meeting is to help countries limit their climate change and to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Greta talked about the climate changes, and what needs to be done to change our climate for the better, she spoke directly to the people capable of changing it.

This essay examines the following problem statement “This essay examines the problem statement that addresses whether or not Greta Thunberg has the rhetorical means to reach the U.N leaders.“

At the time the speech was held, Greta was only 16 years old. She is a climate activist from Sweden, who has gained a lot of popularity and attention for her activism on climate change.

She first got media attention in 2018 when she held her own strike for the climate at the Swedish Parliament for several weeks.

This speech was very powerful, and she used all the right public speaking tools. She has made her message so clear and so impactful.

She also makes use of logos when speaking about the hard facts about the climate. An example of that is this “The world had 420 gigatons of CO2 left to emit back on Jan. 1st., 2018. Today that figure is already down to less than 350 gigatons.” (p.2 l. 35-36).

You can say that she kind of also has some ethos in her speech since she has a lot of credibilities found in her youth. She has spoken on behalf of the next generation for a long time, who are the ones that will end up dealing with the consequences of climate change.

She intentionally takes pauses when speaking, and takes deep breaths to keep herself focused on the topic which also helps her to get the exact emotional reactions that she was looking for in her audience.
