Indledning
The topic of climate change can be hard to talk about, as we don't really feel the problem in our daily life, but that can and will change.
It can be difficult for us to imagine and understand the problem, as well as what we can do to solve it.
When we look back in time, the solution to eco-friendly energy was already invented, but we kept using CO2-based fuels, and we still do to this day.

Showcasing an unknown inventor is a genius way for Boris Johnson to show ethos, as he tells the tale of an unsung hero, which he wants us to remember, as it shows that anyone can make a difference.
There are plenty of times in the speech where he directly includes the audience using “you” or “us”. He also voices his honest opinions and feelings, which in turn shows ethos: “and as you look at that Bersey taxi it is impossible not to feel the pathos” (p. 2, l. 41)
This helps him build credibility with his audience, making it easier to support him and his arguments.
Boris Johnson intentionally uses a rather formal way of speaking, since that is the standard for a politician, but as this can be alienating to some of his audience, he also intentionally uses informal words and slang:
“And Walter Bersey like many of us in this room was a total nut[...]” (p. 1, l. 14). This makes him somewhat relatable, and he comes off as a likeable everyman, as well as more approachable.
To summarize Boris Johnson talks about the past and its inventions, which he relates to the present day, telling us not to relive history, and not to over-criticise new inventions and possible solutions.
This of course is in relation to Water Bergey's electric horse carriage. Boris Johnson’s vocabulary is very across the broad, but also at times relatable.
He has mastered this way of speaking, which may sound funny to some, but it is now part of his relatability. Boris Johnson says that there is no excuse for not tackling the climate crisis.
He talks about how the United Kingdom has to deal with the CO2 emissions and get to net zero as fast as possible. But it will take 29 years to get to net zero.
