Love has always been a thing of great mystery and it can bring out the best in us, but also the worst. ‘The Rental Heart’ by Kirsty Logan published in 2010 is a science fiction story set in a world where it is possible to rent out hearts.

The structure is very odd for science fiction as well and the events of the story are not in chronological order. Most of the story relies on flashbacks from the protagonists past relationships

but the author is very clear in her way of writing and it is therefore not as confusing when you read it as you might think it is.

The passage lines 9-23 are especially very important for the worldbuilding, since it basically sets up the whole set of where the narrative takes place.
