Indledning
“My heart is rubbish. I push much too hardon the paper for some bits and then back right off for others.” (page 35, line 1).
Much like all things in life friendships and character development has a fine balance and natural order but for a young girl, where to place her efforts can seem like an impossible task, if even noticed.
Friendships can be the most important tool in finding oneself but can also lead one down a dark path blinded by thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

Uddrag
The point of no return of Lucy getting detention, is her hitting a fellow student and former friend. “I don’t hate Penny Jones.
Poor Penny Jones.” (page 35, line 3) it is clear through the text that Lucy is giving in to pressure when hitting Penny.
“I could feel Bethan behind me, checking I didn’t jib” (page 35 line 5) showing an unhealthy relationship between these young girls, and the status that Bethan has in the friendship.
While in detentions Lucy is drawing a heart on a piece of paper thinking about it in detail. Making the reader understand her struggle with getting everything just right.
