Fairfield‟s overall intention with the podcast, is to inform and give knowledge to us, the future. Therefore, there‟s great use of the rhetorical pentagram and the modes of persuasion.

He sets up the number of situations, that could become reality, and he explains academic terms, to prevent that the reader may interpret something ambiguous, “…neuroplasticity, habitual attention or inattention – both have neurological consequences in that repetition of the same activities strengthens particular circuits of the brain and can produce lasting pattern” (ll.16-18).

Fairfield takes the term of neuroplasticity, often a medical term, and explains it in relations to the subject. By using academic terms, he searches for an audience, that doesn‟t consume the fast facts, and has some background knowledge.

The style of the language establishes a form of ethos, as his choice of words create credibility, and is used to argument. The start of the podcast establishes pathos, “We weren‟t living with the kind of technology that teenagers now do” (l.12).

By using allusions, he references to something the receiver may be familiar to, and by presenting his own youth, he reminisces over something every reader has experienced. The childhood.
