The article “Cyber Manners” deals with a sixteen-year-old girl named Kiki from an upper middle class suburban home. Kiki gets into a disagreement over a minor issue with her friend Essie. For that reason, she feels tired of her because she feels that Essie has become needy and clingy.
Kiki does not know how to end the friendship without emotional risk though. That is why she sets up fake profiles on Facebook and Twitter and creates a fake identity. Kiki become “Candi” and the only thing Candi is interested in is to hurt Essie online.
Candi attacks Essie with false rumors, which get retweeted. Essie is confronted with the rumors in school and feels humiliated. Therefore, her parents contact the police and hire an attorney.
But the police accuse an innocent mutual friend of both Essie and Kiki, and, facing the expulsion of an innocent from school, Kiki feels guilty and finally admits having cyberbullied Essie.
Eventually, Kiki gets expelled from school and is placed in a rehabilitation group for school bullies and bully victims. Even though her parents find a new school who accepts Kiki as a student, the cyberbullying has left a scar on both the two girls and the whole school community.
