Through many years black people have suppressed by white people. From slavery back in the 18th hundred to the racial problems we know of today.
Even though there is no longer any slavery in the US, black people are still being oppressed. Black men and women are all being judged by their color no matter how their job situations or neighborhoods are.
In the article “The awakening of Colin Kaepernick”, the journalist John Branch writes about the football player Colin Kaepernick, who takes a kneel during the national anthem to spread the message of the injustice of African Americans.
But is it right to kneel during the anthem just to spread this message?
The journalist John Branch gives a good insight of who Kaepernick is a. He tells how Colin Kaepernick was raised by a white couple with two biological children and through his whole life he felt different being the only black person in a white family.
He began his curiosity about African American after hearing about his teammates’ horrible experiences when he himself came from a white family (l. 44-58). This gives the reader a background story for Kaepernick’s actions and it makes it harder to judge him when reading his story.
