The United States has been experiencing an increasing amount of violence and inequality over the years. The U.S. has become the country with the most people put under lock and key, with 2 mil-lion prisoners in the year 2000, primarily Hispanic and black .
This number keeps rising every day. The United States has more prisoners than China, despite the fact China has a population 5 times the size of the U.S.
Minorities is directly targeted in the prison system, through litigation and other cultural means.

Another point to consider is that there is a systemic bias within the American legal system that disadvantages the less privileged.
We see this in the video “How Our Criminal Justice System Targets Communities,” where Van Jones talks about how rich people go to rehab and poor people go to prison .
Additionally, when rich people are caught doing a misdemeanor crime, they can afford to bail themselves out of jail, but low-income people don’t have the same privilege to just pay because these bills are thousands and thousands of dollars.
When they can’t pay, they go back to jail again. After serving their time in prison, prisoners eventually leave the system, but when they do, they are met with a society that uses a system of institutionalized discrediting to punish them for the remainder of their lives.
There are around 45.000 collateral consequences nationwide in the U.S., that regulate the lives of people with criminal records .
