Bernie Sanders commencement speech “Bernie Sanders to Brooklyn College Graduates: Don’t “Allow Demagogues to Divide us” goes about the issues of inequality and discrimination.
Sanders starts by congratulating all the students that have graduated college. He talks about how the very rich are getting richer, and the rest of the United States are getting poorer.
Moreover, he gives a direct example of other countries that are oligarch states and compares them to the US. Furthermore, Sanders continues to tell the audience how much power the billionaires have.
Telling us that they can manipulate the politicians that help them out the most to get elected. However, he ends his speech by declaring that if America can stand together, no one can stop them from accomplishing what they want to become.

Before initiating my analysis of the speech itself, I would like to put commencement speeches into context. Often US universities have very prestigious speakers at these events.
On one hand, it helps the students who have just graduated get a greater sense of accomplishment, but it's also a great marketing plan.
The more prestigious a speaker, the higher profile it helps the university to establish and attract students for the future. When glancing through such speakers, I can mention JK Rowling, Barack Obama, Chadwick Boseman, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.
