Jodie is a veteran from the war. She fought in the army and she probably stopped because of the damage done to her.
She is a mother and a wife but struggles to bond with the family due to her trauma from her time in the army.
When she is about to be hit by the bomb, there is a lot of slow camera moving and long between the cuts.
This makes the scene more dramatic and that something big is under way. And when she has flashbacks, we see her very close up. This makes us feel her emotions a bit more.
