Am I the only one who uses social media too much? At least I don’t think I’m the only one in this room who uses Facebook or Instagram every day.

We all use it every day and probably more than once a day. When you use social media so much, it's easy to get influenced by the content that spreads on the platforms.

There are good things on the social media platforms. You can read “real” news, watch funny videos and you can follow what your friends are doing on their vacation.

But then there are also the bad things such as hate posts or fake news, the spreading of lies such as conspiracy theories.

These are not only posts that aren’t directly pointed at you, but people can also write hateful comments to you, while hiding behind their screen.

Corporate social responsibility, also called CSR “score”, will be 50% more profitable in comparison to companies that have a bad score.

Therefore, it would be a great argument for Facebook to work a bit more on CSR because it can also be good for themselves.

One of the reasons why it will be great for Facebook is that it will make more companies willing to pay for advertisements on their platform.

The companies will know that their ads won’t be shown next to or in relation to hate posts or other controversial posts. Maybe that would also make companies wanting more ads on the platform.

Facebook would also attract more users to use their site, so there would be a bigger audience for the advertisements.

The users would also have a bigger trust in Facebook and make the users using their platform instead of other social medias. So, I think it would be more profitable for them to do something to solve this issue.

Maybe you are thinking “Well I don’t own a company, so what can I do to help solve this problem?”. First of all, there is the easy part of that.

That is that you report those posts so the post will be seen by Facebook and then it may be deleted.

But that might take ages because there are many posts that get reported so it would take some time for Facebook to actually see and delete the post.

So, after you report it, the post might still be on the platform for a long time before it gets deleted. But you can also help spreading awareness on this issue.

Both in the “real world” and on the platform. You can also participate in campaigns that are trying to get Facebook to do more about this.

I’m well aware that you can’t to as much as Facebook can, but you can still help as much as you can. There is so much content on the platforms that shouldn’t be there, so every help is needed. If we all do just a little bit, then it helps a lot.
