Uddrag
The short story Sketches is written by a Pakistani woman from England, which takes place in the 1950s in England. The story is based on a girl named Malika whose parents are both a part of the Muslim faith and believers in the god Muhammed.

One day Malika comes home from school with a drawing of the prophet Jesus from Nazareth and his mother that her teacher made her draw.

Her teacher told her that her parents would love to see the drawing and because of that Malika had great expectations for their reaction.

Most people around the world live a free life, where they have the options to choose what they want to do, what they want to believe in, and what they want with their lives.

There is a fine line between, what they want to do, and what they get to do. But this is not exactly the situation with the little girl Malika, who has a religious background.

She is too young to understand the religious problem, with her controversial drawing from the school. She is raised by her parents but goes to a school, that doesn’t really take her background into account.

Her parents are Muslims, and that’s a problem in the story. But the question is what is the issue, in the story? Is It her parents and her background, or is it the teacher and the school? And does Malika have anything to say in this conflict?
