Throughout the movie the viewers are fooled, but doesn´t realize it, before the main character does. The story turns out to be completely different from what the viewers first believed.

Many messages and hints were hidden in the plot through the entire movie. We seem to ignore so many hints, that indicates the reality, but we first realize it, at the same time as Andrew himself.

In the movie two strong messages appears. Firstly, the movie shows us how blind to the truth we can actually be.

As the viewers, we believed Edward´s story to the very end, although several hints showed us otherwise. The movie placed us in the mind of a delusional person and makes us develop sympathy and an understanding for him as a mentally sick person.

The evidence we seem to overlook is based on our faith in the main character. The second message is shown in the last line of the movie, when the staffs believes that Andrew has relapsed.

Andrew asked Chuck before his lobotomy, “Which would be worse, to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?”.

This last dialogue indicates that Andrew still is recovered, but only played himself to relapse. He therefore decides to corporate and get lobotomy to escape his haunting past.
