The article is written by a journalist called Matthew Engel from Great Britain. Matthew in his younger days used his holidays on Malta, and got really acquainted with Malta’s values. He has now returned forty years later, and as he said “There is nowhere more foreign than a place one used to know”.

Matthews’ attachment to Malta and its people, makes him speak very fondly of the small island nation, but he still has to see the bitter truth in the eyes. By creating this article Matthew tries to inform, discuss and educate people both inside and outside of Malta’s borders.

The article encompasses a lot of topics, but the most noteworthy ones would have to be about politics, corruption, economics and police incompetence. All of the problems that has just been named, is a serious threat to Malta.

As of late (16 October 2017) a journalist named Daphne Anne Caruana Galizia, was killed by the use of a car bomb (Malta’s greatest-ever reputational disaster) because she dug too deep into modern Malta.

Other than that the Maltese press is littered with lies. An example would be the fact that the bus company announced, that their punctuality rate now was at an outstanding 94 percent; the problem with that is that it’s not true and it’s punctuality is more like 9,4 percent.
