Indledning
The short story “Singer of Songs” by Ken Mcbeath is about a man named Mac. Mac lives an ordinary life in Edinburgh, Scotland.

He meets up with a college friend, Gordon. Gordon lives in Africa as a diamond exploration geologist. Mac envies Gordon, as his life seems adventurous and exciting.

The main setting of the story is in Scotland, Edinburgh in a pub and in Africa through Gordons descriptions and Mac’s imagination.

There is a big contrast between “the awful Scottish weather” (p. 4, ll. 114) where Mac lives and the “the hot tropical sun and the smell of the red dust of Africa” (p. 3, ll. 87). We can see that Mac is not happy living in Edinburgh, as he longs for a change of scenery.
