The main theme and title are at close correlation when disusing the main theme. Throughout the text, the recipient is presented with different underlying factors for Alex’s unhappiness.

The most significant one of the factors are undoubtedly the feeling of not having anything under control and being useless which Alex experiences during the trip to Robin Hood’s Bay.

However, in reality these feelings are not something to feel “poorly” about. Although, when taking Alex’s simple-mindedness and most likely young age into consideration one would get a better understanding of his feeling.

This again substantiates the fact that one’s key to happiness depends on one’s state of life. In Alex instance, we witness a young boy whose key to happiness is very altered compared to what a normal adult would see as the key to happiness. The reason for this is Alex’s very young age.

To summarize, Alex is in a very early stage of his life furthermore he is distinctly influenced by a lot of new stuff happening to him which in the end is affecting his happiness.

We all have to go through different stages of life and sometimes one can feel stuck between two stages, for example, the path from child to teenage. This is exactly what we are seeing is happing to Alex
