I have been asked to give you all a speech today on the current debate on immigration in New Zealand. The main points that I will talk about is the impact of immigration on New Zealand’s identity, culture, and our economy. The country, and people have always been very welcoming to others.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi was an agreement between the British monarch and more than 500 Māori chiefs. This agreement made New Zealand a colony of Britain and Māori a British subject.

This established British authority in European eyes and gave British immigrants legal rights as citizens in New Zealand .

This treaty made sure that for the next century and more, that there would be a high number of immigrants from the UK.

This was a 100-day journey by sea, and this was a journey many did not make. The roughness of the sea and lack of hygiene was the cause of many deaths .
