Indledning
People seek for the perfect life, we have expectations, we have hopes, but most of all we dream. Our dreams describe our expectations and hopes for the perfect life.
Some people have their whole life planned, but sometimes life gets in the way, and all we have left is our dreams.
That seems to be the case for 33-year-old Sherry, the main character in Chad Pelley’s story “I Don’t Dream of Genie” from 2016.

Uddrag
Her job includes bruised thighs, because of the children who sit on her lap, and the fact that her ears ring, because of the shouting children.
Last but not least, the repeated pain she goes through every time the children touch her broken toe, from last Christmas, where she and Gene tripped backward on the stairs (p.3 l. 121-122).
Even though she doesn’t like her job with six long hours shifts, she still keeps it for saving up money, which makes her a fighter.
