Uddrag
Adverbs are words that settle in, tell something about or say something about. Their function is to describe verbs, adjectives, other adverbs or whole sentences. They express either time, place, way, direction and so on.

First, they can settle into verbs, as we see a clear example of by "live dangerously”, second, they describe adjectives and that is seen in the text by “very young”.

Otherwise, they describe whole sentences. This we see in the text by “I probably would have starved to death” and “I came to see that chance as a form of readiness”.

Here it is “probably” that describes the whole first sentence and “eventually” describes the whole other sentence. Lastly, advers can also describe other adverbs, such as “back then”.

a. Tre forskellige eksempler på demonstrative pronomener er understreget. Forklar kort med inddragelse af alle tre eksempler reglerne for brug af demonstrative pronomener på engelsk.

There are only four different demonstrative pronomener (this, that, these and those). They are used to point something out. For example, “This city” or “those stories”.

This and that is used in singular, where these and those is used in plural. It also depends on how far away or close the object is. This and these is typically used as something that is close in time or space and these and those is typically used as something that is far away or further away.

In the text this is used to describe the city where the act is played out. Here refers to something close and therefor this I appropriate to use.

Afterwards those is used in plural to describe some other stores someone once wrote. Therefor it is correctly used.

Lastly, it makes sence to use that instead of those, even though “connections” is in plural. But we see “to make connections” as singular, and therefore we use that.

b. Fire eksempler på nægtende sætninger med not er understreget. Forklar kort med inddragelse af alle fire eksempler reglerne for, hvordan man danner nægtende sætninger med not.
There are several different rules when using “denial sentences”. But most importantly, one must remember a correct bending of not.

The first is compound verballed. Contains the phrase either auxiliary verbs or modal verbs, inserts not, which can be seen in the first example “and you have not been here before” and “their servants wouldn’t have let you in the door"

The next example is when a sentence has to be as main verb and the verb is not composed, then inserted not after to be, such as “you didn’t fully appreciate the size of me”

Then there is a final rule which is that if there is a single verb in the sentence which is in to be, then it must be inserted after the main verb. Plus, it shouldn't be rewritten. It can be seen in the example here “they aren’t expecting you”.
