Hostage is a short story written by Andrew Vachss in 1989. In the story we introduce to the hostage negotiator named walker and a criminal named mark Weston.
Mark has taken his mother a hostage and threatening to kill her. The detectives tell Walker that Mark has mental health issues.

The genre of hostage is crime fiction because the text focuses on crimes, detection, and the motives. The text is fabricated but could well have gone away in the real world.
The story is dramatic and creates a tension around the crime. There is also a psychological genre in the story which it appeals to the persons intelligent. The story focuses not only on the physical act, but also the mental part of the character.
Walker: He is very special. He is a liar because Mark can´t trust him. He is psychopath because he kills Mark and then lies about it to the police.
