Facial recognition is a computer system that uses cameras to measure facial proportions and then stores them so that it can recognise people next time a camara connected to the system sees them.
This essay is against facial recognition as it can make a society based on scores like in a computer game, it can infringe on one’s privacy and it can be hacked.

Another thing that is dangerous about having a system, such as the one in China, is data breaches. To understand the reason of this being so dangerous, a person must understand a little about facial recognition.
According to The New York Times article Facial recognition works by measuring facial proportions, for example the length from the tip of the nose to the eyebrow.
This then converts into numbers that the computer can understand and makes a profile for this person.
If anybody was to hack into a government system, in a place where the social score is used, it would be catastrophic, as a hacker could change every social score and people couldn’t just change their password as their password is their face.
