Indledning
The death of another person being the only solution for your own freedom, can be a very relieving situation to be in. Relieving, given the fact that you finally can act out your life as regards being able to follow your passion, beliefs and merely be your own person.

It definitely also is an inappropriate thought to have that one’s death can lead to another’s cue to rub their hands in glee, especially when the two persons are closely related. “Automatic upgrade”, written by the Author named Maggie Robb, is a short story from 2011. The short story is about Ramesh, a 26-year-old Indian man who in this case is the one to be freed by his grandmother’s death.

Ramesh unquestionably did not want his grandmother to die, but certainly could not resist the thought of finally being free and not carry the burden of his grandmother ́s great expectations.

The great expectations of the grandmother are indeed the reason why the relationship between her and Ramesh is rather complicated. The grandmother does not want the same future for Ramesh as he wants himself, and she expresses her disappointment openly when introduced to his announcement.

On the plane to Surrey, Ramesh announces that he intends to quit being a doctor, in order to pursue his passion and the many opportunities that come along with the Mobile phone business.

He even reasons why the mobile phone business is more beneficial than having a career in medicine as a doctor, in the following quote: “But Nani, I will make much more money in the mobile phone business.

This is progress.” (p. 1, l. 8). In the quote, it is quite distinct that Ramesh wants to convince his grandmother about his decision, inasmuch as he sees the great potential within the Profession.
