Uddrag
To put it more simply the consequence of downward social mobility is the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
This scenario is something the 30-year-old Spencer from Darlington recognizes, he is a hard-working bike mechanic, who needs to provide for his family. He is an example of the new phenomenon “a treadmill family”, as it is called by the Social Mobility Commission.
Basically, it means a family that is working hard, but is standing still. He explains that they are working hard, but because of their low salary, and the high rent and their insurance bills, they break even every month and have nothing left to save.
He says” It is absolutely impossible to save anything, and holidays is definitely a no-no” .
