In the following essay I will analyze the obstacles to upward social mobility in Britain and how to overcome the obstacles.
Statistics from State of the Nation 2016 shows that a smaller percentage of FSM ( Free school meal) children get higher grades compared to non-FMS children.
As an example non-FMS children get 12,7 % lower A* - A grade in London and 11,8 % in Yorkshire.
Alan Milburn, a British labor politician, blames an unfair education system as one of the factors that is affecting people's life chances. The other factors he also includes is a two tier labor market and unaffordable housing.

We are denied jobs for not conforming to invisible middle-class dress codes, such as wearing the right shoes. Our career progression is slower because of our accents.
The problem is insidious, institutional and unfair” she says and concludes with saying that: “I want to be there. I want to be middle class.”.
But is it that big of a problem for young people and families with a low-income background? The Social Mobility Commission says “that families earning £22,500 a year have now joined young people and those on low incomes in being unable to climb the social and economic ladder.”
The issue is no longer an issue for low income groups but is also becoming an issue for middle-income families that have been hollowed out socially and left behind economically.
