A college graduation is a happy time where young people finish schooling and can start their adult life. But starting adulthood by being told how bad the society they are going to live in is might be taking it a bit too far. Yet this is what we hear in don’t allow demagogues to divide us which is a graduation speech about this exact thing.

Don’t allow demagogues to divide us is a speech written and held by Bernie Sanders who is a democratic politician from the united states.

The speech is held at Brooklyn college in 2017 at a college graduation with a main theme which I believe is the united states’ society. All that Bernie talks about is how he doesn’t think it is good and that there is a way too big gap between the rich and the poor. But this is a speech for a college graduation so why so much talking about politics?

Bernie Sanders was offered to hold a speech for the graduating class of 2017 at Brooklyn college, but the speech doesn’t necessarily fit in at this circumstance.

Bernie Sanders’ speech talks a lot about the United states’ society but not in a good way. On page 2 line 64 Bernie says “The very rich get much richer and they get huge tax cuts.

The middle class shrinks and the poor struggle, and they will find it harder to get health care, housing, nutrition, education or clean water.” This quote is about the United states’ society.

It may be true, but I don’t think it belongs in a speech for a bunch of young people who is about to go live their lives in this exact society. Hearing from a politician that the society is built wrong is not really a good start on your adult life.

Bernie is a democrat which is the exact opposite of the at the time newly elected president Trump who is a republican. So, it does make sense that he chooses to criticise the United states’ society but doing it at a college graduation not so much.
