Indledning
The narrator of the story, presumably a man, is out looking for breakfast in the early morning, when he notices a sign on the windows of a place called “Clara’s”.

For only a dollar, you can get two eggs, toast and potatoes, which eventually leads to him walking inside the door. He enters a near-empty restaurant, and as he is by himself, he chooses to sit at the counter to avoid being in the way of any future visitors.

Behind the counter he notices a short man with dark black hair and a mustache dressed in chef’s white wearing an apron. The name “Javier” had been stitched on his shirt. The narrator orders some coffee and an omelet after which he begins to read the newspaper.

Beneath the text, there most definitely exists a semantic clustering. At first, we have Javier very thoroughly described by out narrator; “Behind the counter was a short man with dark black hair, a mustache, and a youthful beard, one that never grew much past stubble.

He was dressed immaculately, all in chef’s white-pants, shirt, and apron, but no hat. He had a thick accent. The name “Javier” was stitched on his shirt”.It takes no more than this description, for even the slowest of readers, to realize that this “Javier” we are dealing with, is in fact Hispanic.

And we are furthermore confirmed in this implication, when the authorities apprehend Javier, just moments after the introduction. At no point in the text, are we told that the story takes place within the USA.

However, when the topic falls on deportation of Hispanics, we are most likely talking about the USA, as they have a pretty bad situation concerning illegal immigration,which naturally has lead them to the point of today, where they are often regarded as having some of the strictest deportation and immigration policies in all of North America.

As it is the authorities who enter the restaurant and seize, it is also pretty obvious that this is a case of deportation - at breakfast, as the title puts it.
