Uddrag
The norms of child rearing have changed over time. Everyone has their own idea of what “right” and “wrong” parenting is.
The raising of a child has a huge impact on how the child will live its life and who the child will become. One thing is certain, no one is alike, and nor is their children’s upbringing.
But parents try to do their best out of their perspective. In this essay David Sedaris shares his thoughts about child rearing with anecdotes from his own childhood.
The essay is written in past tense but in chronological order. “It was winter, and I was in New York, killing time before a movie” (p. 1, l. 1) David Sedaris begins his essay retelling a situation he overhears on the street.
