Indledning
Patrick Bateman is living the sweet life as an investment banker, in the 80s New York. Most of his time is spent dining at trendy restaurants, with his wealthy friends and his fiancée.
In a business meeting, Bateman´s co-workers blister with their new business cards, to show superiority. This leads to Bateman later that day murdering a homeless man and his dog.

To have the white’s business card, dining at the most popular restaurants and having the right suit. Then we see a society where consumerism is reflected in the status in the Hierarchy.
This is where Patrick Bateman can fit in because you do not need feelings to look better and richer than others. And this is where we can see the postmodern view of the movie
where the individual is in focus to sussed, but the movie is also filled with the irony of trying to be special and better while they all just look the same. We see this when Bateman is mistaken for Allen as an example.
