Jim Stone is a man flying a spaceship, his living is to take rich and powerful people to beautiful and undiscovered planets, with lots of animal life. In the book, he’s taking a rich and powerful family, Coral.

Then Charlie says to Jim, that he saw a big white creature in the sea, Charlie is really desperate to kill it, so that he can become more famous.
He really wants Jim to help him kill the creature, but Jim doesn’t want to help, but Charlie gets him convinced in the end, so they kill it with the laser cannon on Jim’s ship.
