Indledning
The TED talk “When technology can read minds, how will we protect our privacy?” (November 2018) by Nitah Farahany
deals with the ethical and legal dilemma of artificial intelligence and its influence on human privacy in the future.
She displays fear of brain transparency and its interplay in any political game, where she in this case uses Iran as an example.
She repeatedly believes that a right to cognitive liberty is lacking all over the world and she is concerned about what it means to our freedom.
Nitahs concern is based on how the governments, in the future, will be able to read citizens thoughts.
She states her concern of our freedom of access and fear that the control over our own brains will be threatened.

Her language is very formal and nuanced without seeming too complex, which she manages by using very technical words
but with or without explaining it at an easily understandable level, which helps her maintain her audience's focus.
The formal language is expressed using advanced words such as EEG , miniscule electrical discharge , paraplegic without explaining the meaning of the words.
She does not explain the words in detail but assumes that listeners have some understanding of the subject.
Her language is supported and strengthened through the conviction in her voice and her use of body language, using mainly hand movements, which contributes to her understanding and concern.
The intension is to make the audience evaluate their orientation in use of mindreading technology which may interfere with their privacy.
It may be an eye opener for a lot of people to be faced with the serious notion of what consequences this development may have.
She uses the frightening example of the train driver in China, as a strong logos appeal to create a scaremongering that makes people react now rather than waiting for future developments.
By using logos as an example in her message, she deliberately intensifies the intention of her speech.
The title is a rhetorical question which increases the curiosity of the audience with the intention of starting a stream of thoughts from which to act upon.
