The Thatcher era in Britain (1979 - 1990)

Popular music of the United Kingdom in the 1980s built on the post-punk and new wave movements.

The second generation of British post-punk bands that broke through in the early 1980s, in, tended to move away from dark sonic landscapes.

Some, such as Gang of Four, shifted to a more commercial new wave sound,while others moved into gothic rockor became early examples of indie rock.


1. Margaret Thatcher (1925 - ) – life, career and legacy Margaret Hilda Thatcher, she was born on October 13, 1925, in Grantham, a small town in Lincolnshire, England.

Her dad Alfred was also a politician, serving as a town council member for 16 years before becoming an alderman in 1943 and mayor of Grantham from 1945 to 1946.
