Summary
In the TED talk:” The way we think about biological sex is wrong” 2018, Emily Queen questions the way that sex and gender are defined.
She argues that biological sex is on a spectrum, and she tries to inform people about the major consequences of defining sex as binary cause intersex people.
Emily informs us that she herself is intersex, and she tells us about the difficult situations she had been in as an intersex person.
She points out that society does not know enough about intersexuality, which results in misinformation about intersex people.
She states that this causes lots of emotional and physical harm for many intersex people because they do not get accepted for who they are and because society constantly tries to make them “normal”.
Analytical essay
The definition of sex and gender is a very discussed topic, that many people have different takes on.
Some people will argue that biological sex is binary, while some people will argue that biological sex is on a spectrum or fluid.
People are constantly put into boxes based on their sex and gender. But what if someone told you that what sex you are, does not matter at all and that it is not as simple as everybody is either female or male?
