Almost every young people in the modern society use social media in their daily life. In fact, around 39% 1 of the entire world’s population use social media. Some people live their entire life trough social media. That’s why it’s so important to talk about this topic. Social media as a topic is very interesting because in the modern society they’re a lot of discussion about pros and cons with social media. Therefore, I will try to dig deep into go into depth with it.

There are many good reasons to use social media. In our modern society it is very easy to commutate with each other. For that reason, it’s also very easy to state your opinion to make an impact on many people within a short time. Unfortunately, that also mean that there can be a lot of fake news online. For people who aren’t critical towards everything they read, it could mean that it can be very hard to know what is true or false.

One of the worst things about social media is that the new platform for cyber bullies. Nowadays it is way too easy for cyber bullies to be anonymous and by hiding behind a fake identity. An article from the book “From where you are 2” we meet a girl called Ellie.

Before she started using social media everything went fine for her. But after the start of using the social media site “Formspring” it started to went down for her. A statement from Ellie says “it escalated to death threats. Towards the end, the messages were very aggressive and personal... () ‘Next time you cross that bridge, you’re going to crash.”
It is horrible how it can end that way.

Studies have shown that young people may take damage of using social media. Fortunately, the study also showed that social media can have a positive effect on the social life of young people.
