Indledning
Suicide. The act of intentionally causing one’s death on account of personal reasons. Impulsivity might play a role when reacting to the emotions of the moment, though it is often something people have to work up to; it is usually not something that can be done on the spur of the moment on impulse.

In this case, it is based on bullying and social stigma. Andrea Carter sheds a light on growth within oneself and the learning of how to live up to one’s actions in her short story, ‘The Lamb’, in which she reveals the narrator’s inner fight with herself due to guilt from past events.

The outcome of the event is a typical example of doing things you don’t like to do in desperation to fit in and feel accepted withing your social peers.

The narrator was an outcast and takes the opportunity to change that when being invited to a party: “Dee was the popular girl in our class, the one who had the power to change things, to change lives” (l. 64).

The narrator does not tell Ruth about being invited to the party, in which she does not want to be associated with her – probably because of Ruth being a lesbian.

She assumed it didn’t affect Ruth as much since she was never part of things, which shows the narrators subjective point of view: “Ruth didn’t feel the mortification of being different” (ll. 72-73).

On the contrary, the narrator values social acceptance so much that she gives in to peer pressure and turns against her best friend.
