Indledning
The short story “the flower” was written by Alice Walker and published in 1973. The store is about a 10-year-old girl named Myop who lives on a farm probably in USA and I assume it’s taking place from 1850-1900.

Myop is brown and is most likely born into slavery. As we can see here “the stick clutched in her dark brown hand” Myop walks around by herself the whole story to explore the woods and she finds it very absorbing.

We don’t exactly hear that she is a slave, but it gives when we read this “The harvesting of the corn and cotton, peanuts and squash made each day a golden surprise”.

A it’s telling us that Myop don’t know that she is a slave. As Myop is out adventuring and is heading back to the house it’s getting gloomy and steps on a dead body and we’re told that the body has been laying there for a while “Myop saw that he'd had large white teeth, all of them cracked or broken, long fingers, and very big bones.
