In this assignment, we are going to work on the short story The Drover’s Wife written by Henry Lawson in 1879.
The story takes place in the Australian bush where a family lives: a mother with her four children. The father is a drover and is away with sheep.
Therefore, his wife and children are left alone. They live in poverty in a hut in the bush. One day, a child screams about a snake, and the mother tries to find it, but the snake escapes to a pile of felled apple trees.
They lure it out, but to no avail. The threat is severe; if the snake enters their hut at night, it will likely mean the death of one of the family members…

- Protaganist: The wife is the protagonist, she is the one that keeps the family safe and protected, she does not really need a husband, only for the money he brings, otherwise she can handle every thing fine on her own.
Throughout the story she starts to appreciate the life she has got, even though it is not what she dreamt of as a girl.
- Antagonist: The drover is the antagonist, if he was home and not working away from home, the wife would not have to do everything on her own and her life could possibly be easier. She would have surplus energy and then be able to give more love to the kids.
