Climate changes have through the years become a bigger problem and with the debate on how to handle the crisis, more opinions and solution proposals to the issue have been presented.
In October 2019, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered her “C40 Speech” at the C40 World Mayors Summit in Copenhagen, addressing her point of view on the issue of the climate crisis.
According to her, facing the climate crisis will require making dramatic economic changes, and that the change of society needs political action.

The formal political circumstances are reflected in the language. It is mainly formal and technical vocabulary with academic terms but there is also used informal and colloquial words, where Alexandria appeals to the public audience.
She uses a variation of short and long sentences with hypotactic structure and short simple sentences consisting of two to three words.
As a result, this variation does it easier to inform and then make clear statements about the main points that the audience can follow.
To reach her intention, Alexandria uses different forms of appeal. She uses ethos when she references historical events caused by the climate changes when mentioning Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Dorian (p. 3).
To finish her speech, Alexandria creates an association with a former president of the US, Roosevelt by including one of his quotes.
