What is necessary for true love? This question has been thought about all over the world because there are various answers since it differs from person to person.

If you look at some sonnets from the Elizabethan Era which were into Petrarchan ideals, you might think that people in this era thought physical perfection was needed for true love.

Here we see a clear transition from the octave to sestet because in these lines he goes from giving negative descriptions of his mistress to showing that despite all of his mistress’ flaws he still loves her.

In the sestet, it is also noticeable that the lines come in pair because each pair talk about one specific topic, for instance in this example the topic is, he loves his mistress voice even though music has a more pleasing sound.

The point of view in the poem is first-person perspective and this is seen through the writer's use of the pronouns “My” and “I” throughout the poem.
