• Write a vocabulary of the words: Coral, dun, wires, damasked, delight, reeks, hath, grant, treads, rare, belied, compare(noun). Translate them to Danish, and find their wordclasses.
Coral = Koral / Koraldyr - substantiv
Dun = Is a kind of tan or gray-gold - It is symbolically rich - substantiv
Damasked = Patterned or streaked red and white - verbum
Delight = Delight is like happiness or in danish “glæde, fornøjelse” - substantiv
Reeks = Is not a nice word and it means in danish “Stinke or dampe / ryge “ - Verbum
Hath = This means a type of third-person singular of have - Verbum
Grant = Means permission or approval - substantiv
Treads = means lige walking or stepping along - substantiv
Rare = Means rare or like something speciel that doesn’t happen often in danish “sjælden, usædvanligt” - Adjektiv
Belied = Means be-lied, be-ly-ing or to show to be false
Compare = Means in danish “sammenligne or komparere” - verbum
• In your own words translate each sentence of the poem.
- First sentence of the poem “My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;” - Means his girlfriend or mistress eyes is nothing like the sun.
- Second sentence of the poem “Coral is far more red than her lips` red;” - This could mean that Shakespear misses her red lips and the Coral lips is lookalike to her mistress lips?
- Third sentence of the poem “If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun:” - So we know that dun means gray-gold or like a spraytan, so his point of that sentence is maybe why she isn’t white like the snow?
