If I could describe a parent in one word, it would be trust. You trust your parents with your life. They built the fundamentals for how we act throughout different situations in our lives.
Parents play an essential role in our mental, physical, social, financial, and career development. They teach us how to forgive, how to socialise, and most importantly, how to love. Familie is a child's primary social group growing up, and therefore our most important teacher.

Charlie tells the story as a first-person narrator, and the short story's narrative mode is dialogue. Charlie mentions that he has not seen his father since his mother divorced him three years earlier.
He, however, still feels a strong connection the second he lays his eyes on his father. At first, Charlie describes his father as a "big-good looking man," and it is clear to hear from Charlie's description that his father, with a 3-year absence, has still managed to be the person Charlie looks up to and would like to end up as.
The first impression we get of the father is that he is a stressed businessman. He was right on time, and Charlie mentions on page 1, line 9, "I would have to plan my campaigns within his limitations."
