“Of Mice and Men” review

Indledning
The story “Of Mice and Men” centres around two migrant men who are seeking work during the great depression, they are best friends called Lennie and George.

The first time we see them they are being chased by an angry group of people which they flee down to a river to hide and avoid capture. Lennie has been accused of raping a girl in the town of Weed and therefore they are forced to leave the town and their jobs to find work elsewhere.

The pair travel and eventually find a farm to work on, when arriving at the farm the two are met by an elderly man called Candy. Candy introduces them to the boss who tells them that he is not happy with the pair because they arrived too late.

Shortly after meeting the boss they meet his son Curly, who is very offensive towards Lennie because of his jealousy and insecurity of other men who are larger than himself and may pose a threat.

They also meet Curley's wife who is very easy on the eye and likes to flirt with other men, Lennie quickly takes a liking to her but george tells him to stay away from her because he is afraid that Lennie will do something similar to what he did in Weed.

Lennie and George are introduced to their working team which includes ’Slim’ who is the team's leader, Candy, Carlson and the stable guy ’Crooks’ who has a crooked back which is where he got his name from.

Lennie and George often talk about their dream of having their own farm and one day being independent, Candy then offers the pair 350 dollars to buy the future farm if he can also live with them on the farm.

This makes Lennie and George dream even bigger and in the moment they are all excited, but the moment is suddenly interrupted by Curly who attacks Lennie, Lennie responds powerfully by crushing Curley's hand.

A couple of days pass and we see Lennie sitting in a barn feeling sad because he accidently killed his puppy he recieved from Slim by petting it too hard.

While being upset in the barn Lennie is accompanied by curley's wife who talks and flirts with Lennie agreeing to let him stroke her hair but Lennie gets too excited and after a struggle Lennie ends up murdering her.
