“Neighbours” is a short story written by Tim Winton and is about a young couple’s settlement in a new neighborhood. They are moving from a suburban neighborhood to a neighborhood inhabited by immigrants from across Europe. The shift in neighborhoods is a big change of scenery for the young couple.

Next door, live both a Polish widower and a Macedonian family. They live with other norms and values than themselves which the young couple finds shocking. When their new neighbors across the streets, they don't greet each other or help each other with small things around the house.

After some time, the young couple realizes that their neighbors are not the crazy foreigners they thought at first, but they accept the other's differences. Eventually, when a baby is delivered, they fully accept their neighbor and become friends.
